Taylor Reed has been instructing climbing since 2002, and has been a coach since 2005. He’s had the opportunity to coach and teach climbing all over the world. For his “day job,” he’s Director of Research for an energy analytics company.
Director of Climbing Training Center
Taylor worked with Sportrock Climbing Centers to design and build a dedicated training center. Under his leadership, Sportrock won every Divisional Championship from 2022-2024. While there, he formed a youth program based on best practice long-term athlete development principles, built an athlete management system, incorporated science-backed objective training assessments, and incorporated data analytics into athlete readiness and training.
National and International Support to athletes and coaches
Taylor has coached over two dozen US youth team members, 3 adult US team members, and youth team members from China and Finland. He was World Cup Coach for Team Puerto Rico (2023).
Taylor has been a speaker at the Canadian, Japanese, and US Climbing Coach Symposiums, and was on the technology advisory board for Luxov Climbing. Additionally, he has delivered a plenary lecture at the International Rock Climbing Research Association’s Tokyo (Japan) conference, and moderated training and development panels of researchers and coaches at the Bern (Switzerland) and Prague (Czech Republic) conferences.
He is currently vice president for the International Rock Climbing Research Association.
